Are Chiropractor Adjustments in Sacramento CA Permanent? (The Answer Will Surprise You)

Chiropractor Sacramento CA Steven K. Barham

This is kind of a trick question.

Hi there. We recently got this question at our Sacramento CA Chiropractic Office and thought it was an awesome conversation starter.

Chiropractic adjustments can have long-lasting results but are they permanent???

Do I have to keep coming back for maintenance adjustments forever?

Will my pain come back if I miss a few appointments?

We are going to answer these questions, and more importantly, EXPLAIN the reason we give the answers we do.

We hope you enjoy this article and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out during office hours! We would be happy to talk through things with you.

Chiropractic adjustments in Sacramento CA can have permanent benefits

While the benefits of chiropractic care are often temporary, they can sometimes be long-lasting or even permanent in some cases. The effectiveness of chiropractic care depends on several factors, including the individual's condition, the severity of their symptoms, and the overall effectiveness of the treatment plan.

If you are familiar with chiropractic care, you may have head the term corrective care used. Essentially, corrective care (as opposed by relief care) focuses on correcting the root of problems instead of relieving symptoms.

By correcting underlying issues chiropractic adjustments benefits can technically last indefinitely.

There’s Just One Problem

If there are external factors that caused the problem don’t change, the problem can start again.

For example:

If you correct a misalignment that was causing numbness and tingling.

The numbness and tingling may never return.

But what caused it in the first place?

If in this example, what caused it was a fall, then it is very likely the misalignment will not be caused again.

However, if in this example the misalignment was caused by a sedentary lifestyle or spending too many hours working in front of the computer with bad posture.

Well,

The misalignment may occur again as a result of the same factors that caused it in the first place.

This is why at Barham Chiropractic we often recommend scheduling maintenance visits even after the problems are correct. We want problems to be solved and stay solved.

How long does it take for adjustments to work?

Adjustments can start to show progress as soon as the first visit. At Barham Chiropractic we do consider several factors when assessing the success of the treatments we provide.

Effective corrective care is measurable. There ought to be before and after X-rays to assess the progress of the spine. We deem care to be successful when the body naturally maintains healthy curves in the spine. If we are merely referring to symptom relief, the first adjustment might already “work”. If we want long-lasting results, that correct underlying issues it may take an individualized plan and a little bit more time.
